Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test (TNSET) is a state-level examination held in Tamil Nadu. The Government of Tamil Nadu vide its G.O.(D) No.262 dated 02 -09-2023 has nominated Manonmaniam Sundaranar University as “Nodal Agency” to conduct State Eligibility Test (SET) from the academic year 2023-2024 on behalf of the Goverment of Tamil Nadu. UGC vide its letter No.F.7-7/2015(NET/SET) dated 20-09-2023 has updated its official record that Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is the “Nodal Agency”.
It may further be specifically understood that such a candidate who qualifies the SET would be held eligible for being appointed as Assistant Professor in Universities / Colleges, provided he/she fulfills other academic qualifications prescribed for Assistant Professor post by the U.G.C. and is selected by the respective Selection Committee. Unlike the NET/UGC-CSIR Combined Test the candidates who qualify the SET are eligible for being selected only as Assistant Professor and not for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). As per UGC guidelines, after June 2002, SET qualified candidates shall be eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the Universities/Colleges belonging to the same state whose SET Examination they have cleared.

i. All the candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC (available on the website: www.ugc.ac.in ) are eligible for this Test. The Scheduled Caste(SC) / SC(A) /Scheduled Tribe (ST) /Persons with Disability (PwD)/Third gender category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
ii. Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s degree or equivalent course or candidates who have appeared for their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for eligibility for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC / SC(A) /ST/ PwD / Third gender category candidates). Such candidates must complete their Master’s degree or equivalent examination within two years from the date of TNSET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as ineligible.
iii. The Ph.D degree holders whose Master’s Level examination has been completed by 19 September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in TNSET.
iv. Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their Post -Graduation only. The candidates, whose Post Graduation subject is not covered in the list of TNSET subjects may appear in the UGC-NET/joint CSIR-UGC Test.
v. Candidates with post-graduate diploma/certificate awarded by Indian University/Institute or foreign degree /diploma/certificate awarded by the foreign University/institute should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma/degree/certificate with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi(ww.aiu.ac.in)
vi. There is no upper age limit in applying for TNSET.

Pattern of Examination
The TNSET would be conducted in the pattern of UGC-NET. Accordingly, the test will consist of two papers as in UGC-NET.
The test will consist of two papers, Paper I and Paper II. Paper I will be common to all the candidates, while Paper II will be based on the PG subject chosen by the candidates (as given in the TNSET list of subjects) . Both the papers are only of objective type and multiple choice questions (MCQ) in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. There will be no break between the papers.

The medium of Question Paper shall be in English only except Paper II of language subjects (Tamil, Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam, Sanskrit, Telugu and Urdu).

Age Limit

Application Fee
All candidates, with the exception of those who are SC, SCA, ST, or have disabilities, must pay an examination fee of ₹600. The examination fee is ₹300 for individuals who are differently abled, SC, SCA, and ST. As different categories pay different fees for the examination, it is recommended that candidates enter the correct Community / Category of Disability. Who can apply for a Chevening Scholarship?
Applications for fully funded Chevening Scholarships to study for one-year master’s degrees at UK universities.
Vidyadhan Scholarship Program from Sarojini Damodaran Foundation supports the college education of meritorious students from economically challenged families. The students are selected after completion of 10th grade /SSLC through a rigorous selection process including test and interview. Currently Vidyadhan program has around 5000 students across the following states: Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Goa, Odisha, New Delhi and Ladhak.
Those selected will be eligible for two year scholarship from the Foundation. If they continue to do well, they will be given scholarship for pursuing any degree course of their interest; these scholarships are directly through the foundation or external sponsors who have registered with the Foundation. The scholarship amount for graduation courses varies from Rs 10,000 to Rs 60,000 per year depending on the state, course, duration etc. The selected students will be required to attend the mentoring programs from the Foundation.

Students whose family annual income is less than Rs. 2 Lakhs and who have completed their 10th grade/BSEB exam in the year 2022 from Bihar. They should also have scored 80% or obtained 8 CGPA in their 10th Grade/SSC examination. The cutoff mark for students with disability is 65%. or 6.5 CGPA
Selection Process
SDF will shortlist the applicants based on their academic performance and the information provided in the application form. The shortlisted candidates will be invited for a short online test/interview.

Click on “Apply Now ” button. An email will be sent to your email account with account activation link.
Please open your email in a new window and open the account activation email. Click on the activation link provided in that email. This will open the home page with a message that Account is activated and a login form to proceed further.
Please login with the email id and the vidyadhan password that you have entered in Step 2 above while registering a new account.
After you login you can see a link “Help” on the main menu. You can click on that link to read help and instructions for creating an application, updating and tracking it.
Please select the appropriate scholarship program from the list available programs and click on the ‘Apply Now’ button to create your application.
After creating the application you can edit it and make changes by clicking on Edit Application on top of the application.
After you complete the application and submit, you will get a message “submission successful”. However please note that the application will be considered complete only after you upload the mandatory documents and photograph.
